Housing

In the outlying parts of the Quangnam province where we do most of our work, there are many families with small children living in seriously substandard housing.  Add to this the climate. During the year, this area is the recipient of 60 inches of rain during the monsoon season, as well as visits by typhoons blowing in from the South China Sea.

Housing Sponsor: Clean & Safe Housing
One-time sponsorship of $950 takes a child and his/her family out of mud floors and leaking roofs and into stable housing with sanitation facilities.

We identify families with small children who live in these types of dwellings and provide new housing providing that the family agrees not to sell the house for a profit for a number of years as well as other safeguards for Children of Vietnam.

On the right you will see a new brick house being built to replace the thatched building on the left.  New houses are constructed for $850 US.  Individuals who wish to underwrite a house will receive a picture of the home that is being replaced and of the new home plus a copy of the documents (contract with homeowner, contract with the builder, and any other documentation available) plus a small biography of the family.

In addition to home building, we also provide roofing materials for families.  In the picture to the right you will see a family with a home which has had the thatching replaced by metal panels.

Each year we have at least one or two "metal panel" distribution days where eligible recipients gather at a site and are given  the number of  sheets of metal that are needed to adequately cover their homes.

On the right you can see the distribution process taking place.  These pictures were taken in April of 2002.
